About the Role
Garment Technologist - Ladieswear
Birmingham
We are recruiting a ladies multi-product Garment Technologist for a leading Retailer who are going through a huge period of growth. Candidates must have a broad knowledge of multi-product with a minimum of 12 months experience. This role would suit candidates who are a good team player with a proactive approach to technical product development.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide technical information to design and development packs, including but not restricted to measurements, block and construction details, to facilitate prototype development
- Fittings samples with the design and development team and ensuring the product fit is consistent across all categories
- Fitting and approval of bulk samples, preparing graded size charts for production to ensure a consistent fit across all sizes
- Input accurate details to the critical path taking a sample from prototype to bulk production.
- Alert the relevant buying, product development and production teams of any issues that may cause a delay to the agreed delivery date
- Supplier management. Maintain a regular contact with suppliers and factories throughout production and address any technical issues to ensure shipment dates are achieved
- Review production/shipment samples to confirm they adhere to all agreed standards of fit, quality, labelling and packaging.
- Assessing final AQL inspection reports where applicable and liaise with the production department to maintain required ex-factory dates
Skills and experience required
- Previous experience working as a Garment Technologist is required
- Excellent knowledge of Ladieswear, fitting and construction
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- The ability to work independently within a team environment
- Computer literate is essential

Attend customer meetings / take briefs / confidently present trends and design work
Engage with customers to develop collections, liaise on design and development
Engage with suppliers to develop trims, fabric and wash development, sample development
Attend trade shows, organise design travel calendar with regards to UK shop reports, international and UK research trips etc
Carry out sample reviews with designers, Technologists, Account Managers and Director
Manage samples being processed by development team
About you:
Must be very organised with good creative energy
Experience in a similar product area is essential with a history of working with denim and cargos product areas

A fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced Import Merchandiser to join a well-established childrenswear client. This role requires you to have a sound knowledge and understanding of the critical path.
You will be:
Raising & maintaining purchase orders on the SAP system.
Creating and managing the critical path.
Attending internal fit meetings, with QA for each individual style, to check all PP samples, and Production samples for all details including fit, fabric cols, qualities, prints and trims.
Updating and creating workbooks, for each order.
Managing the critical path efficiently, by gaining approval of lab dips, bulk fabrics, knit downs, prints and trims, samples & labelling.
Resolving any problems that may arise on a daily basis with suppliers.
Checking all label & barcode layouts.
Updating and maintaining supplier manuals.
Checking and approving all invoices, and packing lists prior to shipment, and ensuring suppliers have made bookings for Freight, and approving vessel schedules will be met, and updating our shipping dept.
Chasing to ensure goods are handed over on time, and meet the correct scheduled vessel.
You will have:
Fashion Degree or similar.
At least 4 years' experience in a similar role working for a supplier.
Experience managing the critical path.
Competent user of Microsoft Office, in particular Outlook and Excel.
Excellent communication, organisational and negotiation skills.

My client is a small friendly team based in central Manchester with close links to public transport. They are a global producer of homeware, sleepwear and textiles. Working collaboratively with UK retail buyers, overseas managers and senior designer in house.
Duties include:
Ensure high service levels are provided and newness in design is given.
Proficient in Adobe Software, including Illustrator and Photoshop (minimum 2-3 years’ experience).
See concept designs through to production, working closely with buyers and factories to ensure the brief is met.
Work closely with technologists and merchandisers to ensure products fit and find solutions to any problems in production.
Researching trends and creating mood boards for new projects and seasons ahead.
Attending customer meetings and prepare for presentations.
Design to a brief and amend as buyer requests, display experience of liaising with buyers requests and demands.
Creating exclusive designs with awareness of cost and factory restrictions.
Prepare design packs including technical drawing and size specs.
Thorough understanding of the current market and research of retailers to ensure handwriting is in line.
Manage day to day work load, working closely with buyers and factories to ensure deadlines are met for samples and designs.
Develop new products with the factories from research, requesting new fabrics and embellishments.
